Practice Survival English:

English Language Learners sometimes need to practice “survival English” for different reasons.  The first resource here provides a list of 30 possible reasons or situations that might need to be rehearsed, like going to a walk in clinic, expressing condolences, meeting a child’s teacher and asking for directions.  Each situation has key English words, phrases, questions and answers as well as examples to listen to.

Another helpful resource to practice “survival English” was designed for traveling.  This page offers lessons and activities for different situations which require English for travel.  These lessons were designed for a classroom situation and require a partner to practice.  The activities are about an hour and provide many opportunities to practice situational English conversations.
